Hello everyone. I am looking at a beautiful 1969 5513.it is really nice and in great condition.It has someone’s name engraved on the case back. Does that’s affect value much if at all? Cases where it improves the value are military watches where the person is famous, awarded medals, etc. If I get my Rolex engraved 'mfer' and then try and sell it, you can sure bet it'll be worth about 0 less. Value will depend *a lot* on the driver and the quality of the provenence. If it's some random schmoe, then it's a stainless Daytona. If it's someone notable, then could be big bucks. Of course the biggest oddity is the three-year discrepancy. Hard to imagine Rolex digging up a new-old-stock Zenith Daytona for their 2004 winner,

It's not permanent like a tattoo, if it bothers you later or you wish to sell it just have your RSC replace the caseback, they're not that expensive IMO. I had my GMT-IIC engraved by the UK RSC at very little cost btw. Others more knowledgeable than me will weigh in, but I would guess that an engraved caseback would diminish the value, after all, it's likely to be of interest only to the original owner. The engraved rehauts were on the 5 digit Subs from sometime in 2004, until the end of production, in 2010, so for over 5 years. To say no 5 digit Sub should have the engraving is pointless, because many of them do.
Rolex keeps the back clean and neat so that you can engrave it yourself. They even offer professional engraving and have a catalogue of different events and fonts.. Not enough people do this so that their Rolex becomes a special one-of-a kind.. I went to NYC Rolex repair center to have my SD looked at, running fast.
